The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) released the list of Gallantry and Service Medals on Saturday, the eve of Republic Day 2025. A total of 942 personnel of Police, Fire Service Medals, Home Guard & Civil Defence, and Correctional Services, MHA said.

While, of the total of 942 Gallantry and Service Medals, 95 personnel were awarded Gallantry Medals, MHA added.

Among them, 101 people have received the President's Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM). There are 746 personnel who have received the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM).

Before this match, India will take on Japan in their second match of the tournament and Pakistan will clash with South Korea at the same venue.

Five of the 942 personnel have been posthumously awarded Gallantry Medals. These include Deputy Superintendent of Police Humayun Muzzammil from Jammu and Kashmir Police, Head Constable Girjesh Kumar Uddey from the Border Security Force (BSF), Constable Sunil Kumar Pandey from the Central Reserve Force (CRPF), Head Constable Ravi Sharma from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and Selection Grade Fireman Satish Kumar Raina.

Among the majority of the 95 Gallantry Medals, 28 personnel are from Left Wing Extremism-affected areas, 28 personnel are from the Jammu and Kashmir region,bl777 official three from the Northeast, and 36 personnel are from other regions. They are being awarded for their gallant action.

Out of 95 Gallantry Medals, 78 police personnel and 17 fire service personnel have been awarded the Gallantry Medals, respectively.

Among the police personnel awarded the Gallantry Medal, the highest 33 names are from Uttar Pradesh. There are 15 names from Jammu and Kashmir.

Gallantry Medals are awarded on the grounds of rare, conspicuous acts of gallantry, respectively, in saving life and property or in preventing crime or arresting criminals, the risk incurred being estimated with due regard to the obligations and duties of the officer concerned.

Out of the total 101 PSM honours, 85 personnel have been awarded to police service, five to fire service, seven to Civil Defence and Home Guard Service, and four to Correctional Service.

Meanwhile, of the 746 MSM, 634 have been awarded to police service, 37 to fire service, 39 to civil defence and home guard service, and 36 to correctional service.

PSM is awarded for a special distinguished record in service, and MSM is awarded for valuable service characterised by resource and devotion to duty.

Gallantry awards are announced twice a year - first on Republic Day and then Independence Day.rich9
